Giovanni Segantini (Giovanni Segantini) (1858-1899),
Italian painter, one of the leaders in the national symbolism fine art, painted in puantilistskoy technology.

  Giovanni Segantini (Giovanni Battista Emanuele Maria 15.1.1858-28.9.1899) was born in the village of Arco around Trentino South Tyrol, in the family of a merchant. After his father's death in 1866, Giovanni remained in the care of his second wife and moved with her family to Milan. Penchant for drawing and painting classes at the Segantini manifested early. In the years 1875-1877 he began attending classes Academy of Brera in Milan, he worked as an assistant artist Luigi Tettamanzi, helping to paint the church, doing advertising signs. In the years 1878-1879 he also took lessons in painting from artist Luigi and Guido Serogati Carmignano close circle of artists of the younger generation of so-called "Lombard Scapigliatura."

In his early work belonged to the verismo, since these years constantly attached "soil" rural grounds of religious and symbolic significance. He lived and worked in the Alpine mountain villages (Brianza, 1882-1886; Savognin, 1887-1894; little, 1895-1899), drawing on their experience of the life of peasants and herdsmen. Giovanni Segantini died September 28, 1899 in Schafberg near Pontresina (Switzerland). Buried in the small, tombstone bears the inscription: "Arte et amore vincono il tempo" ("Art and Love conquers time"). In 1909, in St. Moritz (Switzerland) opened the personal museum. His letters and articles were published in 1910 in book form.
